Faculty Academy on Teaching First-Year Students

The Center for Engaged Teaching and Learning offers the Faculty Academy on Teaching First-Year Students; a faculty community which discusses the challenges and solutions that come with engaging incoming UC Merced students. The primary goal of this academy is to understand first-year students' needs as the target for further instructional resource planning.

The Faculty Academy on Teaching First-Year Students invites UC Merced instructors to:

1. Participate in the monthly meetings to network and discuss select topics faculty have found effective in supporting first-year students’ learning and academic success. You are welcome to join one or all of our meetings. Food is provided during the meetings. Learn more .

2. Engage in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL). During the spring semester, participants will craft a research question and design the study to explore a classroom-based topic of interest. Equally important, participants will come away with resources that they can use and share in their teaching portfolios and become campus SoTL mentors and advocates. Learn more .

3. Take advantage of the faculty authored online resources to support their first-year students’ academic success. Find website here .
